Sloppy Joes

Fancy Version:

Difficulty: Easy

Serves: 4 servings (2 helpings each)

Preparation time: 15 Minutes

Cook time: 15 Minutes

Total time: 30 Minutes 

Serve with: Potato or Brioche buns, Jícama Slaw

Notes: Low Sodium, Heart Healthy

 Ingredients:

  • 2 cups MothaSauce

  • 1 Tbsp vegetable oil

  • 1 small yellow onion

  • 1 medium carrot

  • 1 celery stalk

  • 2 cloves garlic

  • 1 small green bell pepper

  • 2 tsp brown sugar

  • 2 tsp Dijon mustard

  • 1 tsp Worcestershire Sauce

  • 1/8 tsp liquid smoke

  • ¼ tsp MSG

  • Your choice of hot sauce or spicy chili. My preference:

  • ½ tsp Ancho chili in Adobo

 

Instructions:

Small dice vegetables and sauté with oil in medium sauce pan over medium heat until onions are translucent, about 5 minutes. Add MothaSauce and all other ingredients. Reduce heat and let simmer, about 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper if necessary. 

Top with favorite trappings, or my Jícama Slaw.

Lazy Version:

Instructions:

Buy your favorite supermarket Sloppy Joe Mix, add half recommended amount to MothaSauce.
